District Two Tee Times

Sand Point Information - IMPORTANT PLEASE READ

Please read ALL below, then scroll down for Tee Times

We have had a number of incidents (over 10) before, during, after and since Inglewood that are quite concerning, and quite frankly leave a not so friendly mark on District 2 and all of WJGA. I’ll provide both a positive and negative recap and additional information regarding Districts at Sand Point when the tee times are posted later this week.  If we have 10 bad incidents prior to or on Monday at Sand Point, we will have a field that is reduced by 10 on Tuesday (no exceptions).

Please do not call Sand Point. This is a very busy time at Sand Point, and they are not allowing any reciprocal rounds. As stated earlier there are no practice rounds available, and you can’t go out unescorted and uninvited and walk the golf course prior to the event. If we determine that this is happening you will be DQ’d from the event (no exceptions). Also no practice after your round at Sand Point. Practice includes no use of the facilities (range, putting green(s), chipping areas). I’m also adding juggling of golf balls on your clubs and chipping and or swinging clubs in any area. If you feel this will be difficult for you, I would suggest that after you are done with attesting you take your clubs to the car. We will have zero tolerance on this topic. This is not a request of Sand Point’s it is based on our incidents at Inglewood.

If you are assigned to be a walker on Monday and or Tuesday and can’t (unless it is for a serious injury/reason) your junior will not play. The tee times will indicate if you are assigned as a walker on Monday. It will also indicate if you are slated to be a walker on Tuesday. With regards to our helpers all you will see is a reference to Day 1, Day 2, or both Days. Check the volunteer schedule to determine the time and activity that have been assigned to you.

Before I get to information regarding Districts, I wanted to comment quickly on Inglewood and our other Sub Districts. I know it’s probably sounding like a broken record but I have another comment or two on  Pace of Play. We were well under 4 ½ hours at Carnation, and some said it was due to the mosquitoes chasing us around. We were well under 4 ½ at Snouqualmie (behind the public I might add) and some said it was because it is such an easy course. For all the naysayers out there (even our Executive Director didn’t think it could happen at Inglewood), we did it again. Every group was under 4 ½ hours at our last 3 Sub Districts, and we only gave out one warning for slow play. We love what we are seeing from the players out there, especially when your group happens to fall behind. It should come as no surprise that we will be following similar Pace of Play Procedures at Sand Point, and we should have no problem at all.

Lot’s of other great stuff to report on from Inglewood and our other previous events, but unfortunately bad behavior is always noticed and also unfortunate is that it almost always overshadows all of the good. I’ve decided not to get into the detail, and would just ask that the players, parents, spectators, and everyone involved in our events please take not of our rules and general golf etiquette.  As a player you are responsible for the pace of play of your group, and although you are not responsible you are certainly impacted by the behavior of all the players before, during and after a round. You can all help with this as well…You can police others, and you should.

One last point before we discuss Sand Point. Next year Districts will likely be at the Plateau Club, and in 2012 we have Sahalee confirmed for Districts. As was the case this year and previous years no practice rounds will be available. If you’re interested juniors can walk the course for free with a paid adult during the USGA Senior Open being held at Sahalee later this month.

Sand Point the Golf Course: I’ve never played it, but have seen enough of it to know it will play harder than the short yardage on the scorecard. When you miss a green here, you might be short sided even if  the pin is in the middle.

Some Sand Point WJGA trivia: We have a number of players in our field this year who played a sub district event at Sand Point in 2006, and we have one player who played Districts at Sand Point in 2003 as a 9 year old. He (there’s a hint) shot 102, and I think just barely missed qualifying for State and yes survived the experience.

Qualifying for State: # of spots in each division will be posted at registration and the scoreboard. We will also have our playoff procedure for 1st place and the last qualifying spot for State posted as well. For those of you who have not played in a Districts event before: If you can’t play at our State event please let me know ASAP and no later than your tee time on Tuesday.  If you can play at State and you qualify you must stick around on Tuesday and get your entry form, fill it out, and pay, prior to us/me leaving the event (NO EXCEPTIONS…just like paying for Districts at Inglewood).

Tee Times on Tuesday: We will try and get them posted Monday night, and at the latest they will be posted first thing Monday morning. Your division will be using the same block of tee times (unless the girls slow play us on Monday) on Tuesday, but adjusted based on your Monday score with the lowest scores going off last.

Tees: Boys/Girls 8-11 Gold, Girls 12-17 White, Boys 12/13 Blue, Boys 14-17 Black

Sand Point Facilities: It’s a great spot.  On Monday most of the facilities are closed. Our registration will belocated above the pool area, and there is a ramp that comes up from the parking lot. We will have a shuttle from the ramp to the driving range available (assuming we find enough volunteers…more on this later). There is a clock at the driving range, please make sure you are back and at attesting 15 minutes before your tee time.

Behind the registration area is a large indoor room that will be WJGA’s hospitality area. This is available for players, volunteers, spectators on both Monday and Tuesday. On the pool level there is a snack bar that will be open on Monday and Tuesday until 8pm.

Locker rooms, and the clubhouse are reserved for Members Only. On Monday most everything is closed so we can go upstairs on the deck(s) that overlook the 18th hole and provide a wonderful view of Lake Washington.  These areas are not available to us on Tuesday.

Walkers and Volunteers:  We might be a little short handed with helpers on Monday, and we will have a sign up sheet at registration for Tuesday. We should be fine with walkers. For Districts this year and this will be the rule next year if you’ve been assigned to walk and can’t your junior will not play. Let me repeat this, if you’ve been assigned to walk on Monday and or Tuesday and you can’t (unless it is because of a serious injury etc) your junior will not play. Walking assignments for Tuesday will not be posted until Monday night or Tuesday morning.  We will have a list Monday of Tuesday  walkers but not their specific group assignment.

NO PRACTICING AFTER OUR ROUNDS ON MONDAY AND TUESDAY: Do us a favor and just don’t pull any clubs out of your bag after you leave attesting. The areas we are in are just way to small for any golf related practice/activity. The only exception will be if you are in a playoff.

Players are allowed to go out on the course after their round. Personally I would prefer you don’t but if you do, you become a spectator and must abide by our spectator rules (no golf related discussions, keep 25 yards away from the players, etc…). If you don’t do this you the spectator will be DQ’d.

And lastly, and this will be our indicator as to how many read these messages. Sand Point has small sand bottles that easily clip onto golf bags. Leave the first tee with one, use it, and fill it up when it’s empty, and then use it again.

Play Well and Have Fun.

PARENTS/PLAYERS:
Please check for Volunteer Assignments.  We count on our volunteers to make each tournament a success!  Thank you!!

What a great day and great venue. Special thanks to Jessica Kent and her mom who missed their tee time and then came out later in the day to volunteer...awesome, and thanks to everyone who helped today and will be helping on Tuesday.

Regarding the greens and pin placements. Take it up with 10 year old Tommy McCoy who had 14 putts and a 38. I'm thinking we should shut the sprinklers off and have the USGA cut the pins.

See you again on Tuesday, for what promises to be another great day.

Btw…please notice not one comment about our Sand Point Idaho volunteers
