Important Information Regarding District Championship:

As you know, both days of the district championship will be played at Eagles Pride Golf Course (formerly Fort Lewis) in Dupont.  For tee information, see previous message below.  Tee times will start at approx 8am.

First, let me say THANK YOU to Jeff Lyon!  He and his wife have graciously offered to pay for range balls for all kids at the district tournament!  When you check in, you will be given a token for 1 bucket of balls.  After that, you can certainly buy your own.  When you see them, please thank Mr. & Mrs. Lyon for their generosity!

In an effort to make sure the tournament is successful, tee times and volunteer/walker assignments will be posted Friday evening.  It is YOUR responsibility to check the website for tee times and duties.

This is the first year for Jeff and I as directors.  In my opinion, it has been a wonderful season!  We have been able to play some really nice courses, and the kids have posted some amazing scores.  As for Jeff and I, the experience has been great as well.  I hope you feel the same way.

Allow me to be honest…the one very difficult part of this job has been the volunteer coordination.  As you know (hopefully), Jeff and I are volunteers!  We are volunteering our time and are happy to do so.  In fact, the main reason WJGA is probably the best state junior program in the northwest is because of the dedicated volunteers who make it happen.  I say this as a reminder that the WJGA season is short, but your help is crucial.  I want to say thank you to everyone who has chipped in and helped this year.

Which brings me to my last point – we are going to need many volunteers at district!  I will be assigning walkers and volunteers along with the tee times.  If you see your name, you are responsible for that duty.  If, for some reason, you can’t do it, we are asking you to find a replacement.

Also, for walking scorers, there will be no changes!  If you do not show up and score for your assigned time, your child will not tee off.

Finally, some crucial reminders about Monday & Tuesday:

1.  I hope to have tee times for Tuesday on Monday at the scoreboard.  Stick around to see when you will tee off.

2.  ALL qualifiers will have to register and pay for state BEFORE leaving Fort Lewis.  You need to allow time on Tuesday for this, as there will be no registration after the tournament is over.  I would advise bringing cash or check to the tournament!

See you there!

Directors update for Wing Point and Eagles Pride

What an amazing year it's been already! We've had three very successful tournaments so far. A big thanks from the directors to all the parents and kids who have made our job easy over the last couple of weeks. Wing Point will be our last sub-district. In preparation for that, I'd like to offer some reminders and announcements:

First, please be aware of your pace of play. Wing Point is not a long course, but unless every player is committed to playing efficient golf, there may be some long rounds. As we approach the district tournament, the directors and rules officials will begin to penalize groups for slow play.

Second, if you would like to play a practice round at Wing Point, they have blocked out tee times from 2-5 pm on Sunday, July 11. This will be for players only. Parents, you can feel free to walk, but canʼt play. Please call the Wing Point pro shop for details and to set up a tee time. Their number is 206-842-7933. The tees for Wing Point will be as follows:

Boys 14-17
Black

Boys 12-13
Tan

Boys 8-11
Brown

Girls 16-17
Tan

Girls 8-15
Brown

The 8-11 boys and girls will play the front 9.

Third, please remember that your district registration forms and payment MUST be given to me by the end of the tournament at Wing Point. When I leave the tournament, registration will be over. There is much planning to do, so there will no exceptions to this.

Lastly, in preparation for the district tournament at Eagles Pride (Fort Lewis), here are the tees we will be playing for both days:

Boys 14-17
White (Red/Blue Course)

Boys 12-13
Red (Red/Blue Course)

ALL Girls
Red (Red/Blue Course)

8-11 Boys & Girls will play Red tees, back nine (Blue course)

Whew, that should just about do it for now! Please stay tuned...early next week I will post some very important district information. Until then, stay cool in the weather, HOT in the golf course!

News from your Directors;

Dear Players and Parents,

Welcome back to the 2010 WJGA season!  We have tournaments scheduled at some great courses this year, and it looks like we’ll have a full field.  I look forward to seeing many of you back this year, and welcoming those playing in WJGA for the first time.

First, let me start by saying this will be my first year as your District 3 director.  I take over for Lorna Martinson, who for several years has tirelessly sacrificed her time and energy to make our D3 tournaments a success.  Please join me in saying thank you to her for all she has done!  I am joined by my co-director, Jeff Milbourn.  It is also his first season in this role.  We look forward to working with all the kids and volunteers this summer, and will surely be relying on many of you for help along the way.  And of course, we ask you for patience as we learn the ropes!

As you may have already noticed, the website has been redesigned, and looks wonderful!  There are many resources and much information available, so make sure you spend some time looking around it.  Most importantly, make sure you and your child are well aware of the rules and responsibilities listed.  As we get closer to tournament time, perhaps the most important rule is regarding withdrawing from tournaments.  If you need to withdraw from a tournament, you MUST let me know at least 48 hours in advance.  Failure to do so will result in your child being ineligible for the next scheduled tournament.  No-shows have an adverse affect on the entire field, so this rule will be strictly enforced.  I would suggest printing out the rules of membership and reviewing them with your child before the season begins.

Lastly, we are playing at some really wonderful courses this year.  I have listed the course information for you below.  I will be providing tournament updates as we get closer, but this information should help you prepare and assist you if you get a chance to go play a practice round.

See you all soon!

Daren Overstreet and Jeff Milbourn
